GORKHA — Following severe flooding along the Budhigandaki River that affected several settlements across Tsumnubri, Dharche, and Aarughat, Nepali Congress youth leader Prem Kumar Khatry has reached the affected regions to deliver essential relief supplies.
The relief distribution was carried out in direct coordination with local government authorities to ensure that assistance reached those most impacted by the disaster.
Targeting the immediate survival needs of displaced families, Khatry provided vital materials including portable solar units, drinking water pipes, tarpaulins, food supplies, sleeping mats, and blankets. The initiative aims to ease the daily living conditions of affected households as they navigate the immediate aftermath of the flooding.
Khatry, a permanent resident of Arughat Rural Municipality, emphasized that extending support during times of crisis is a fundamental humanitarian obligation. He committed to continuing relief efforts in other affected areas based on ongoing, on-the-ground assessments of community needs.
While the initial distribution covered designated priority zones, Khatry stated that additional relief and rehabilitation programs would be rolled out following further evaluations of the displaced residents’ condition. He noted that coordination with local authorities would remain a top priority to streamline distribution.
Khatry, who ran as a candidate from Gorkha Constituency No. 1 in the last House of Representatives election against current Home Minister Sudan Gurung, has been actively engaged in community development and social service across Gorkha for over 15 years.
